Translation & copywriting services – frequently asked questions

Services

I need to translate something into Italian. Can you do that for me?

Sorry to disappoint you, but no. As a Brit who has spent most of my life in the UK and studied almost exclusively in English, I write copy in and translate into English only.

Some translators DO translate into their second (or third) language, but that’s very rare. Find out more about the mother tongue rule here.

Feel free to reach out to me even if your project is into Italian – I have a network of top-notch Italian translators and copywriters who I can refer you to.

I need Italian content. Can you help me?

See above.

I need someone to produce Italian and English copy for my bilingual project

You’ll probably struggle to find someone who is equally proficient in crafting both English and Italian copy.

The best solution is to work with separate English and Italian copywriters who can work in tandem. Get in touch with me and we can discuss how we can take this approach to deliver the most effective result in both languages.

Can you translate an official document for me?

I no longer provide translation for official documents and certificates. It’s just not my forte. Feel free to get in touch and I can recommend a colleague who is skilled at this service, or browse the Chartered Institute of Linguists’ Find a Linguist service.

Can you write/ translate SEO-friendly content?

Yes, I can carry out SEO keyword research and optimise the copy, meta titles and meta descriptions for the keywords.

For information please see the dedicated SEO translation page.

Pricing

How much do your copywriting and translation services cost?

Since every project is bespoke, I quote on a per project basis. The cost of your project will depend on its size, complexity and deadline.  Get in touch with me and I’ll send you a detailed proposal based on your needs. The more detail you can share upfront, the more accurate the quote will be.

I know that it’s frustrating to not have any indication of pricing, so here are some typical costs to give a general idea of my pricing:

SEO-friendly copy for a 5-page website from scratch: from 1,300 Eur

SEO-friendly copy for a 5-page website transcreated from Italian: from 700 Eur

Non-SEO translation of a 5-page website: from 400 Eur

This blog post discusses some of the factors to pricing in more detail.

I want to work with you but my budget won’t cover your quote

No problem. A proposal isn’t set in stone. If your copywriting or translation budget won’t cover what I have quoted then we can work together to work out how we can change the project scope to fit your budget.

I need an English translation or copy but have no budget. Can you help?

I love working on pro bono projects but have to limit it to a couple of small sustainability-related projects a year (gotta pay those bills!). Get in touch to find out more.

Be aware that translating an entire book or website is a huge project that can take several months, so I’m not able to help pro bono on those projects.

If you’re a registered charity then a good bet would be to get in touch with Charity Translators or Translators Without Borders. Good luck.

Timelines

How long does it take?

Turnaround time for translation and copywriting projects depends on many factors, including the size and complexity of your project and my current workload. A general rule of thumb is 2 weeks for a website translation without SEO, 3 weeks for an SEO-friendly website translation and a month for an SEO-friendly website from scratch, plus lead time of a couple of weeks to a month.

I have a project and the deadline is today. Can you help?

If you need same-day (or even next-day) turnaround for a project, however small, then I’m not your woman. Turnaround time depends on many factors, including current workload, and the size and complexity of your project.

As a general rule, same-day delivery isn’t possible. On rare occasions I may be able to deliver a project on the same day for a 100% premium surcharge and within 24 hours for a 60% surcharge.

Rush deadlines and good results rarely go hand-in-hand. However, if you need to work with someone who has in-house marketing experience and can get under the skin of your brand and spend time suggesting several creative options, then let’s chat.

Process

How do you communicate with clients?

I usually communicate with clients via email. Once you decide to work with me, I’ll need to collect information about your company, project, customers and objectives so that I can really get under the skin of your brand. We can either do this via a call or I can send you a briefing template for you to fill in when it is convenient for you.

I’m happy to schedule calls if you’re happy to put up with my English accent!

Qualifications & samples

What are your qualifications?

I have a BA Honours degree in Italian and philosophy from the University of Leeds, a diploma in Italian to English translation and a diploma in marketing. I’m accredited by the SEO Content Institute and completed extensive copywriting training with the Copywriting Apprentice.

I’m also a member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists and Procopywriters.

Can you send me your CV?

Get in touch with me at ciao@fuschiahutton.com and I can send you my latest English or Italian CV. Alternatively check out my LinkedIn profile, which is up-to-date and contains the same info.

Can I see some samples of your work?

Yes, you can see my portfolio here. Please note that I have confidentiality agreements with many of my clients, so this is not the full extent of my work. I will include links to relevant samples of my work within the proposal, as some clients have agreed I can share samples of their projects, but not publicly.

We’d love to work with you but need you to do a free test first

Once we’ve have a chat and established that I’m the right person to help you then I’d be happy to complete a short test (approximately 250 words) free of charge. If you need anything more substantial, then we can agree on the terms according to your needs.

You might also find it easier to take a look at my portfolio to get taste of past projects.
